2012 Honorary Chairpersons

A Letter from Stewart and Martha Spinks

Dear Moonlight & Magnolias Contributors, Supporters and friends,

Cancer is a formidable adversary.  It touches nearly everyone in some way.
So, in 2007 when my doctor said those words no one wants to hear, “you’ve got cancer”, I had no idea where the path would lead, but knew I would fight this.  Prostate cancer at 60. The thoughts racing through my head, my wife, family, so much that was still to be, not ready for something like this!  After the initial shock, then some fear, anger and confusion, it was time to look at the options.  After a lot of reading and talking to professionals I went through proton therapy and I am cancer free.

This blessing has helped me balance my faith, family and work as well as enjoy each day a little more.  Reflection and time are two gifts of a journey through cancer.  Reflection however, makes you think about how amazing it could be, and will be, one day when no other person ever has to hear those words…”You’ve got cancer.”  By working with The American Cancer Society, hopefully we can raise the money to fund research, educate, offer screenings, give patient care and support and one day we believe, wipe out cancer.
My wonderful wife Martha and I are humbled to serve as Honorary Chairpersons for the 2012 Moonlight and Magnolias Gala to benefit The American Cancer Society.  Together maybe we can eliminate those few awful words…”You’ve got cancer.”

Sincerely,

Stewart and Martha Spinks
